Glossary
C
CAB
German manufacturer of industrial printers, label printing systems, and thermal transfer solutions. CAB printers are used in production, logistics, and shipping, and support features such as direct PDF printing, barcode and RFID printing, and inline production.
Calibration
Calibration
The process of adjusting a printer or sensor system to precise dimensions, material types, or color values. Calibration ensures accurate print positioning, consistent print quality, and reliable barcode recognition, especially for direct thermal and thermal transfer printers.
Carbonless copy printer
A type of printer that prints on multiple layers of paper (e.g., carbon copies or continuous forms) simultaneously. Carbonless copy printers are particularly common in industry, logistics, shipping, and administration, and enable robust, reliable multiple copies without manual duplication.
Centronics (Parallel Interface/IEEE1284)
A historical printer interface, still used in some industrial applications, for robust point-to-point connections. Offers high reliability with easy integration.
Checksum
Control value for detecting data errors during transmission.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black)
A color model for professional four-color printing that combines cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to create a wide color gamut. CMYK is used in full-color printers, label printing, and marketing materials, and is crucial for accurate color reproduction, high-quality graphics, and professional print results.
Code-V
CODE-V is a proprietary print and graphics emulation originally developed by Quality Micro Systems, Inc. (QMS) and implemented there as "Code V" or Code V Graphics Language.
CODE-V is a printer language supported by Microplex for controlling and formatting label and form output. It defines layout, text, barcode, and graphic positioning, as well as printer-specific parameters, enabling precise, reproducible output in industrial applications.

Cold Fixing
Fixing of printing inks or coatings without heat, e.g., through pressure or chemical reactions. Suitable for sensitive materials or special applications.
Configuration
Setup and customization of printers, interfaces, or software settings to ensure optimal performance, media compatibility, and integration into ERP, WMS, or production systems. Configuration includes print parameters, emulations, network access, sensors, and GPIO/PLC connectivity.
Consumables
Materials that need to be replaced regularly during the printing process, such as labels, paper, thermal transfer ribbons, and printheads. Consumables affect print quality, barcode readability, and process reliability, and are crucial for just-in-time printing, inline production, and industrial applications.
Continuous Material / Continuous Paper
Paper on rolls or accordion folds – typical in industrial and logistics applications.
Continuous-feed laser printer
Printer that can use continuous forms with tractor paper feed — suitable for large quantities of reports, lists or batch printouts.
Controller / Print Controller (MPC)
The integrated control unit (firmware) of a printer, which ensures that the printer is compatible with various technologies and emulations — for maximum flexibility and system integration.
Customization (Adaptation / Individualization)
The process or function of adapting printers, software, label layouts, or printing materials to specific requirements.
Customization enables individual label formats, special barcode or RFID applications, just-in-time printing (JIT), and integration into ERP, WMS, or inline production systems. It increases flexibility, efficiency, and process reliability in industry, logistics, and manufacturing.

Cut Sheet Printer
A printer that uses individual, pre-cut sheets of paper (like A4 or A3 size) instead of continuous rolls. Microplex's SOLID series laser printers are cut sheet printers ideal for production documents and reports.
Cut Sheet Printer / Cut Sheet Laser Printer
Printer that prints single sheets of paper (e.g., forms, shipping documents, accompanying documents) — often in high-volume business environments or with specific format requirements.
Cutter (Cutting Device)
Automatic or manual cutting unit for labels or continuous material. Guarantees precise separation of labels in production lines or inline printing.
Cutting Device
General term for mechanical or automatic systems for separating or cutting labels and continuous material.
