Glossary
F
Face-Down
A term describing printed labels or documents lying with the printed side face down in a printer's output tray. Face-down output is used to optimize order, readability, and further processing in industrial, logistics, and office applications.
Face-Up
A term describing printed labels or documents lying with the printed side face up in a printer's output tray. Face-up output facilitates immediate visual inspection, sorting, and further processing in production, warehousing, and shipping.
Firmware
Integrated system software in the printers controls functions, compatibility, and printing behavior. In Microplex printers, this is the MPC (Microplex print controller)
Flat Head Printing
A thermal printing process where the printhead makes direct contact with the material, especially for paper labels and standard thermal transfer ribbons. Offers high precision for barcode and graphic printing.
FTP-Printing
Transmission protocol for print files over a network.
Full-Color Printer
A printer that enables high-quality color printing on labels, paper, or films. Full-color printers are used for product labels, logos, graphics, and marketing materials, and support just-in-time printing, direct PDF printing, and inline production. They ensure precise color reproduction, process reliability, and professional printing results in industry, logistics, and manufacturing.
Fuser
A printer component that permanently fuses toner to paper or labels using heat and pressure. Fusers ensure durable, scratch-resistant print results and are crucial for inline production, just-in-time printing, and industrial applications.
Fuser Unit
A component of a laser printer or copier system that permanently applies toner to the printing medium. The fuser unit uses heat and pressure and is crucial for print quality, durability, and process reliability in industrial, logistics, and office applications.
