Glossary
S
SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing)
Enterprise software for accounting, logistics, production, and supply chain management.
In the context of printing systems, SAP enables the direct control of industrial and label printers, e.g., for shipping labels, batch labels, or pallet markings. Integration into SAP environments allows for just-in-time printing processes, variable data printing, and reliable barcode output.

Security Certificate
Key document for encrypted communication (e.g., HTTPS).
Security Certificate
Key document for encrypted communication (e.g., HTTPS).
Security Standard
Defined guidelines or standards that ensure the security of printers, networks, materials, and processes. Security standards include, for example, encryption, authentication (e.g., IEEE 802.1X), access control, VPN usage, and data integrity.
Compliance with security standards is crucial for reliable printing, protection of sensitive information, and compliance in industry, logistics, and manufacturing.
Serial Interface (RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485)
A popular industrial interface for robust, interference-free communication over long distances. Used to reliably connect printers to controllers, terminals, or machines.
Shipping Labels
Labels containing shipping information such as recipient address, barcode, tracking number, and logistics data. Shipping labels are used in logistics, warehouse management, and e-commerce, and support just-in-time printing, inline production, and integration with ERP/WMS systems. They ensure process-compliant, error-free parcel and goods shipments.
Signal Lamp
Optical indicator device on printers or production lines that visually signals the status of devices or processes. Signal lamps indicate, for example, errors, paper jams, material depletion, or print readiness and support reliable inline production processes.
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol)
Network protocol for managing and monitoring printers in IT infrastructures. IT administrators can centrally retrieve and monitor status values (toner, errors, paper condition).
SOTI (SOTI MobiControl / Device Management)
Enterprise solution for Mobile Device Management (MDM). Supports the management, remote maintenance, and configuration of IoT and printing devices in enterprise networks – particularly relevant for large logistics and retail installations.
SSL/TLS
Encryption protocols for secure communication over the network.
Status-Out
Signal feedback from the printer to a higher-level system (e.g. PLC) indicating that a job has been successfully completed.
Status-Out
Printer feedback to the system, e.g., "Printing successful."
Function by which the printer sends feedback (e.g., "Printing successful") to the higher-level control system or plant after a successful print job—important for automated processes and monitoring.
