Glossary
T
Tags
A general term for identifying tags or labels that contain information about products, pallets, or transport units. Tags can contain barcodes, RFID, text, or graphics and are used in industry, logistics, warehousing, and production. They enable just-in-time printing, automatic data capture, and traceability in networked production and logistics processes.
Tear-of-Edge
A mechanical device on printers or label dispensers that allows for the controlled tearing off of individual labels. Important for clean handling and fast further processing.
Thermal Transfer Labels
Labels that are printed with ink ribbons, making them more durable and robust.
Thermal Transfer Printer
Printer that uses a ribbon to produce durable, scratch-resistant and chemical-resistant labels — suitable for robust marking even under harsh environmental conditions.
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
Raster image format for high-quality, lossless images. TIFF is frequently used for label templates, print graphics, and archiving to ensure precise, detailed print results on industrial printers.
Toner
Toner is a fine powder used in laser printers and copiers to transfer images, text, and barcodes onto paper or labels. It affects print quality, color intensity, and readability, and is crucial for reliable, long-lasting printing in industrial, logistics, and office applications.
Tractor Feed / Continuous Paper Feeder
Mechanism for the precise feeding of continuous paper or labels using laterally mounted sprocket holes. The tractor feed ensures accurate material transport, high running reliability, and consistent print quality, especially with dot matrix printers, continuous laser printers, and industrial systems for multi-part forms or logistics labels.
Traffic light system
A visual control system, often combined with signal lamps, that displays the operating status of printers or production lines using color signals (red/yellow/green). Traffic light systems enable the rapid detection of malfunctions, material requirements, or production readiness, and increase efficiency in industry, logistics, and just-in-time printing processes.
Transfer Roller
A component in laser printers that transfers toner from the drum unit to the printing medium. Transfer rollers ensure consistent toner application, high print quality, and reliable labeling in industrial, logistics, and office applications.
