Glossary
G
GAP-Sensor
Sensor for detecting the label gap between two labels. Guarantees precise positioning, perfect label feeding, and stable printing processes – especially important for logistics and shipping labels.
GHS (Globally Harmonized System)
A globally standardized system for classifying and labeling hazardous substances. GHS-compliant labels require consistent printing results, often in combination with BS5609-certified materials.
GHS-Label (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals)
A standardized labeling system for marking chemical products according to international safety guidelines. GHS labels contain hazard pictograms, safety instructions, and substance information and are used in industry, logistics, and warehousing. They enable process-compatible printing, barcode integration, and legally compliant safety labeling.
GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output)
Universal digital inputs/outputs for connection to machine controllers or production systems.
Examples: Stop signal, start signal, material run-out, status message. Interface for input/output signals ("General Purpose Input/Output") for direct connection of the printer to machine controllers — enables automated printing processes and feedback in production and logistics systems.

Grammage (or basic weight)
Weight of the label or paper material per square meter (g/m²). Affects material stability, print quality, and handling in industrial printing.
GTL-Label (Global Transport Label)
Internationally standardized label for the worldwide transport of goods. GTL labels contain barcodes, delivery information, and logistics data that are precisely processed by industrial and logistics printers. They support just-in-time printing, variable data, and process integration into production lines.
